Extended time RVer Vivian Grybko--a WINer

The first thing one notices when entering Vivian Grybko's 24-foot motor home is that it must be hard for her to let go of things.  "What can I say," shrugs Vivian. "It's just me. I don't set out to collect things, they just seem to accumulate."

After scooting aside a couple stuffed animals, I settled into a small spot on her couch. Before long we were laughing about the "need" to fill space. Back home in northeast Kansas, she admits, it's much the same in her small cottage, where she moved after her husband passed in 2000 and she needed to downsize from a large two-story farm house. "I still have my mother's doll." she smiled. "And, my two favorite dolls. How do you let go of such things?"

I met Vivian at the Escapees' RoVers Roost RV park in Case Grande, Az., when both of us stepped outside our adjacent RVs to witness a brilliant desert sunset. We both just looked at each other and smiled. The scene was so breathtaking that we didn't have to say anything, we just stood there and watched the colors change and gradually fade to twilight.

Then we talked.

I learned that Vivian, a shy but independent woman, had recently rolled in from a month of boondocking at Quartzsite where she had rendezvoused with 105 other members of WIN (Wandering Individuals Network). "It's a great group of people," said Vivian. "There is always something planned."

In 2002 she purchased her current 1999 24-foot Jamboree class C motor home soon after she decided she could no longer just "sit" the rest of her life in the small prairie town where she and her husband lived for more than 30 years. These days she's on the road about eight months out of the year joining up with other WIN members.

"There are about 100 caravans and gatherings a year," she said. "One of my favorites was a kayak run near Grand Junction, Colorado."
